Day 2 Venice, Italy - Tour Begins
Arrive in Venice and join your fellow travelers for a special welcome dinner featuring regional delicacies and Italian wines. (Dinner)
Day 3 Venice
Today, come to know the city during a guided walking tour of La Serenissima (the most serene). During your tour you will view the church dei Miracoli; the church of San Giovanni & Paolo; the church of San Martino; and the majestic Arsenale, seat of Venice’s once mighty naval power. Continue to Riva degli Schiavoni to board the boat to Murano* for a visit to a glass-making factory. See how the world’s most spectacular blown glass is artfully crafted. After returning to San Marco, the city’s cultural hub, enjoy time on your own for lunch before exploring the historical center of Venice. View the Tower Clock, an early Renaissance marvel. Turn your gaze towards the Bridge of Sighs where many a convict took their last look at the beauty of Venice. Visit Basilica San Marco to see its brilliant Byzantine altarpiece, the Pala d’Oro. Then, enter the spectacular Doge’s Palace from which the Doge ruled Venice. Your guide reveals its secrets as you view its sumptuous and splendidly decorated rooms. Later this afternoon, relax as you try the famous cicchetti & one ombra di vino - small snacks and wine - at a local Venetian wine bar. (Breakfast)
Day 4 Venice
The day is yours. Your tour manager will be on hand to offer suggestions. Perhaps you will explore Venice’s cultural treasures independently. Delve into the local cuisine, find your own spot by one of the canals or stroll the endless pathways. The locals say the best way to experience Venice is to “get lost.” Perhaps sign up for a Venetian mask workshop to learn about the decadent symbol of the city or set out on a glorious gondola ride. (Breakfast & Dinner)
Day 5 Venice
This morning we embark on a guided visit of Rialto Market, the centuries-old daily market area where visitors and Venetians alike shop the colorful display of fruits and vegetables. Then, stop at Frari Church, home to an array of stunning works of art: Giovanni Bellini’s "Virgin Mary" and Titian’s "Assunta". Pause to reflect on Venice’s deep artistic heritage before continuing to a squero - the Venetian word for boatyard - and learn how gondolas are made. No visit to Venice would be complete without a visit to the Academy Museum to view its rich collection of paintings from the Byzantine era to the Renaissance. (Breakfast)
Day 6 Venice
Today we step off the beaten path and meet a local guide for a walking tour of lesser known areas of Venice. Visit the old Jewish Quarter with an expert and discover this area that remains a center of Jewish life. Learn more as you explore the Jewish Museum. Enjoy your afternoon at leisure for shopping or exploring the city’s many museums and other attractions. This evening celebrate your new appreciation of Venice during a joyous farewell dinner.
